Hundreds of families took part in a five mile bike ride around Aberdeen yesterday.
More than 300 cyclists set off from Duthie Park for this year’s freshnlo Pedal for Scotland Aberdeen Family Ride, which took them on a circuit on traffic-free roads.
The event, which is now in its second year in the north-east, is organised by Cycling Scotland and allows people of all ages and abilities to take part.
Keith Irving, chief executive of Cycling Scotland said: “We’re delighted to bring freshnlo Pedal for Scotland back to Aberdeen for a second year.
“It’s great to see so many families out on the route, experiencing the fun that can be had on two wheels. It’s the 16th year of the freshnlo Pedal for Scotland event and we hope people will continue to support the ride.”
Participants left Duthie Park at 10am and followed the Old Deeside Railway Line as far as Pitfodels Station Road, before turning on Garthdee Road and returning along the same route.
As well as the cycle, participants were treated to entertainment at the park, including a cycle stunt show from Savage Skills and Cycling Scotland’s bike skills track.
It also featured Nestrans GetAbout bike roadshow and a climbing wall from Adventure Aberdeen.
Pedal for Scotland began in 1999, and has raised more than £1.75 million for charity.
Similar events have taken place across the country including rides in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Linlithgow.
Longer rides were also on offer, with cyclists able to complete a 47 mile or a 110 mile challenge route from Glasgow to Edinburgh.
