A 51-year-old Leicestershire man who set off on a 5,000-mile charity trek around the coast of mainland Britain has reached Aberdeen.
Raising money for the National MS Therapy Centres and the Spinal Injury Association, Peter Hill set out from Southampton back in February.
His gargantuan journey has taken him from the English Channel, through Wales, along the ruggedly beautiful west coast of Scotland, round Cape Wrath and into Moray and the north-east.
Speaking last night after completing a 22.5-mile stretch from Newburgh to Cove Bay, Aberdeen, on his journey south, the former oil worker said: “There really are some stunning parts of the world in the north-east, and surprises too.
“All of this trip I’ve come across little gems again and again.
“The other day I had the longest beach walk of the journey so far – a 15-mile walk into Peterhead.”
Mr Hill, who lives near Melton Mowbray, explained that a fisherman he bumped into on the beach gave a generous donation.
He added: “It’s those brilliant little conversations with people along the way that make it all worth while.”
Donations inspired by Mr Hill’s mission have so far raised more than £5,770 of funding for his chosen charities.
