An Aberdeen-born actor is making a triumphant return home next month.
Craig Kelly, 22, moved to America four-years ago after being accepted into the prestigious New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts.
The former Bridge of Don Academy pupil landed a part in The Backseat, directed by Ryan O’Leary.
The film is a coming-of-age comedy about two friends going through the trials and tribulations of high school.
As part of this year’s Aberdeen Film Festival, the film will be screened at Cineworld in Union Square shopping centre. on October 5, beginning at 5.30pm.
Mr Kelly said: “This is my first full-length film although I’ve done a few shorts and student stuff in the past.
“It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done, it really solidified in me what it is to be an actor.
“We shot it about two-years ago now, but obviously films take such a long time to make with the editing and everything else.
“It’s been around the US at about 15 different film festivals.
“It’s the director’s first film as well, he put a lot of his own money into it so I’m glad it has went well, we didn’t know it would go this far.”
Mr Kelly, who now lives in London, says returning to Aberdeen will be a big moment in his acting career.
He continued: “To bring it back to the cinema I went to when I lived in Aberdeen is really nice, as well as being able to show it to my friends and family.
“It will clear up any ideas that I was over in New York just having a good time and that I was actually working.”
Mr Kelly says his parents, Jim and Liz, have been behind him every step of the way.
He added: “Even I didn’t think I could really do anything with it until the second year I was in New York and I started getting regular work.
“They were amazing, they never stopped me from doing anything, they have always been really supportive.”
Tickets for the screening cost £7 and will be available from www.aberdeenfilm.com in the coming weeks.
