A Yes Campaigner and north-east MSP has said he expects the results to be tight.
Banffshire and Buchan Coast MSP Stewart Stevenson told the Press and Journal that it was “too close to call” but said he was quietly confident a large turn out in voters would benefit Yes Scotland.
Speaking at the Aberdeenshire count at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre Mr Stevenson said that, whatever the result, he felt the enthusiasm shown by the people of Scotland during the campaign process had been inspiring.
He said that he believed the debate had engaged thousands of people in politics again who may not have been interested before.
He added: “People have taken politics over from the politicians and that is how it should continue.”
Mr Stevenson said that, from information he had received, he believed the turn out in some places had been as high as 90%. He said in his opinion this was good news for the yes campaign.
