A residential street in Aberdeen was cordoned off after an alleged sexual assault in the early hours of the morning, police have confirmed.
Officers have now launched an investigation into the alleged assault on Ashvale Place, which took place at around 3.25am on Sunday.
One nearby resident told us that they heard a commotion on the street at around 3am.
A police spokeswoman confirmed: “We are investigating a report of a sexual assault against a woman, which happened around 3.25am today (Sunday 24 October 2021) at Ashvale Place, Aberdeen.”
The cordon has since been removed, but cars and residents were not being allowed to move out of the area on Sunday morning.
Pictures from the scene showed an unmarked van at the scene.
The road, which is located in the heart of the Granite City next to major roads such as Union Street, was closed off for a number of hours.
Uniformed officers were at the scene throughout the morning and the cordon was removed at around 11.30am.
‘Concerning incident’
Detective inspector Martyn Thomson said: “This is a concerning incident, with the victim left understandably shaken. Enquiries are ongoing and we are working hard to trace the man responsible.”
“Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident 763 of 24 October 2021, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
