Woman led police on high-speed chase after ‘panicking’

Jennifer Morris.

A woman “panicked” when police tried to pull her over, sped off and led cops on a pursuit before crashing into another car and legging it.

Jennifer Morris put her foot down when police flashed their blue lights at her, signalling for her to stop, on Hayton Road in Aberdeen.

The 31-year-old sped off in excess of the speed limit, ignoring pedestrian crossings and eventually crashing into another car at a junction.

But far from giving up, Morris tried to flee on foot – only to be caught by chasing officers a short distance away.

Fiscal depute Rebecca Thompson told Aberdeen Sheriff Court the incident happened at 2pm on December 8 last year, when cops on mobile patrol spotted Morris’ number plate was missing a reference number.

Cops found cocaine on Morris

Morris sped along Hayton Road, “travelling at excessive speed for the limit for the area” and going “straight through two zebra crossings”.

She then crashed into the side of another car at a junction and came to a stop.

Morris leapt out of the vehicle and tried to make off on foot along Donbank Terrace.

Ms Thompson said: “After a short foot pursuit, the accused was traced.”

Officers found a small amount of cocaine on her.

They also discovered the vehicle was displaying false plates.

‘She panicked when the blue lights went on’

Morris pled guilty to dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident, driving without insurance, possession of cocaine and fraudulently using false registration plates.

She also admitted driving while unfit through drink or drugs on a separate occasion on June 6 last year on Castle Road, Ellon.

Defence agent David Sutherland said his client had purchased the car very recently and did not have insurance.

He added: “She panicked when the blue lights went on with a view to her being stopped.”

Mr Sutherland explained Morris was utilising an addiction recovery facility in Glasgow.

He said: “She’s been clean for some time and intends to remain clean.”

Sheriff Margaret Hodge told Morris, of Ythan Place, Ellon: “You will be aware you were a danger to yourself and all other road users on both dates when you drove in this manner.”

She ordered her to be supervised for 18 months and imposed a two-year driving ban.
