An leading expert in artificial intelligence will hold a talk in Aberdeen next month.
Professor Ian Watson, who is based at the department of computer science at Auckland University in New Zealand, will discuss how rapid developments in artificial intelligence may mean humans could soon find it hard to tell the difference between a digital and an organic mind.
During the lecture, Prof Watson will discuss the “Turing test”, which pits a human against a computer to gauge the degree of intelligence of the machine.
Susan Craw is a research professor at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, who will welcome Prof Watson for the talk on October 7.
She said: “Prof Watson’s guest lecture promises to give us a fascinating insight into the world of artificial intelligence and its influence on the digital world in which we now live.
“It will be of interest to a general audience including senior school students.”
The lecture will take place in RGU’s Riverside East building between 6pm and 7pm. To book a place, visit www.rgu.ac.uk/alan-turing-and-the-artificial-brain
