Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman had her handbag stolen on Greenfern Avenue yesterday.
The 62-year-old had her bag taken be a man described as slim, wearing light blue jeans, white trainers and a grey hooded top. The suspect made off in the direction of Fernhill Road.
The handbag was later recovered with a low three-figure sum stolen from the purse.
DC Joanne Cooper said: “Our enquiries are at an early stage but this was a nasty incident, which has left the female badly shaken but uninjured.
“I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or recognises the description of the man to contact us immediately.”
A similar incident happened on Croft Road this morning around 8.45am when a second woman had her bag stolen.
Police were unable to confirm if the incidents were linked, but a spokesman confirmed enquiries are ongoing.
