A mum caught swigging wine from a bottle while behind the wheel – with one of her children in the car – has been banned from the roads.
Wendy Watt drank booze on top of painkillers then drove off along a road with the child sitting in the car with her.
The 40-year-old, of Fraserburgh, previously admitted a charge of careless driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs and obstructing police officers.
Today, she appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court for sentencing, where it emerged she had been seen drinking from the bottle of wine in the car.
The court heard that CCTV operators clocked her parked on a zebra crossing then watched as she reversed and nearly hit a passing cyclist before driving through a red light.
Police arrived at the scene and pulled her over near Aberdeen’s Beach Esplanade.
Watt then struggled with officers in front of her child.
Sheriff Graeme Buchanan disqualified her from driving for 15 months.
He said: “This is really quite concerning that she was swigging from a bottle of wine in the car.
“That kind of attitude is indicative of a serious problem with alcohol that needs to be addressed.”
As well as the ban, Watt was put on an 18-month supervision order and told to do 140 hours of unpaid work.
