A crewman aboard a fishing vessel docked in a north-east harbour accidentally sent out a distress signal this evening.
Aberdeen coastguard received the alert from the 16m Buckie-registered fishing boat, the Heather Sprig, docked at Fraserburgh Harbour, at around 6pm.
A coastguard rescue team from Peterhead was then sent out to investigate, only to discover the alert had “inadvertently” been issued by a crewman .
A coastguard spokesman said: “We received a distress call from a fishing boat, we got the Peterhead Coastguard Rescue team to make sure it was in the harbour.
“The vessel accidentally put out a distress signal through an automated system. Someone pressed a button inadvertently .”
