Buckie-registered fishing vessel in Fraserburgh accidently issues distress call

A crewman aboard a fishing vessel docked in a north-east harbour accidentally sent out a distress signal this evening.
Aberdeen coastguardĀ received the alertĀ from the 16m Buckie-registeredĀ fishing boat, the Heather Sprig, docked at Fraserburgh Harbour,Ā at around 6pm.
AĀ coastguard rescue team from Peterhead was then sent out to investigate, only to discover the alert had “inadvertently” been issued byĀ a crewman .
A coastguard spokesman said: “We received a distress call from a fishing boat, we got the Peterhead Coastguard Rescue team to make sure it was in the harbour.
“The vessel accidentally put out a distress signal through an automated system. Someone pressed a button inadvertentlyĀ .”
