A dream home for a Doctor Who fanatic has gone on the market in Aberdeenshire for £650,000 – complete with its own life-size Tardis.
The art deco property near Fordoun includes a hand-built replica of the iconic seven-foot police call box.
It is the work of Tony Allen, a 51-year-old heating engineer, who built the Tardis as a “side project” after finishing the house.
Mr Allen said: “The idea came to me in the pub about three years ago.
“I originally had an art deco post box and it stood five feet tall by three feet wide but I was never keen on it so I ended up smashing it up with a hammer.
“I then saw a black and yellow AA box at Luthermuir but I didn’t think it would look good in the garden. It was a friend who said to me after the pub ‘what about a Tardis?’
“A lot of the materials were left over from when I was building the house and the signs on it came from Ebay.
“It took about six months to put together but I think it has definitely been worthwhile.”
Mr Allen said the booth had become something of a tourist attraction.
“Delivery drivers usually take pictures of themselves in front of it because it is so unusual, and tourists have stopped to take selfies,” he explained.
“Sometimes when people just see pictures of it online they think it has been photo-shopped in. They can’t believe it’s actually hand-made.”
He is now selling up and setting himself the challenge of building another unique home in the north-east – but will not be putting his love of Doctor Who behind him.
Mr Allen, whose favourite Doctor is Christopher Eccleston, said: “I grew up in the Tom Baker era so I’ve always had a soft spot for some of the older doctors.
“Peter Capaldi hasn’t delivered yet but I live in hope.”
