An Aberdeen mum who drunkenly attacked her partner and brandished a knife at him had to be restrained by her own son.
Nicola Tennant was still drinking following a bender the night before when she grabbed her partner by the throat then threatened him with a knife.
Fiscal depute Christy Ward told Aberdeen Sheriff Court how Tennant, 37, had been drinking alcohol on February 5, this year.
She said: “At around 7am the following morning her son and his friend saw her outside in possession of a bottle of vodka and still under the influence of alcohol.
“They tried to take the bottle from her and she began to argue with them and walked back inside. She appeared angry and upset.”
Made ‘slashing motions’ with knife
The mother-of-three returned home but began a drunken argument with her partner before her son and his friend heard a disturbance upstairs.
The fiscal added: “They went into the room and saw the accused on top of the complainer with both hands on his throat.
“She picked up a wallpaper tool and attempted to strike her victim with it but missed.
“She then went to the kitchen, picked up a knife and made a slashing motion towards him.
“He restrained her and their son grabbed the knife and threw it into the front garden.”
The terrified pair then ran from the house and called the police.
Struck victim with decorating tool
Tennant’s victim was left with scratches and abrasions to his neck, arm, abdomen, back and wrist.
Tennant, of Cummings Park Drive, admitted assaulting her partner by seizing him by the neck, trying to strike him with a decorating tool, brandishing a knife at him and repeatedly scratching him.
Sheriff Morag McLaughlin deferred sentence until next month to allow for background reports and a restriction of Liberty order assessment to be carried out.
Defence agent Stuart Beveridge withheld his mitigation until that date.
