A Mearns primary school will be closed today after a fire broke out in the kitchen.
Firefighters were called to Laurencekirk Primary School at about 4.10pm today after the blaze broke out.
Crews from Inverbervie, Altens and Stonehaven worked for more than an hour to extinguish the blaze.
They are now ventilating the building with fans.
An Aberdeenshire Council spokesman said: “Laurencekirk Primary School will be closed to staff and pupils tomorrow following a fire in the school kitchen shortly after 4pm this afternoon.
“No pupils were in the building at the time, and the remaining staff safely evacuated.
“Parents and staff have been informed of the closure and we will review the situation in the morning following inspection of the damage caused.”
A fire service spokeswoman described it as a “small fire”.
She added: “We had one hose reel jet, two breathing apparatus and three positive pressure fans in use.
