A radio DJ accused of assaulting his long-term partner has walked free from court after the case was dropped by prosecutors.
Northsound One breakfast show host Greig Easton, 38, was on trial at Aberdeen Sheriff Court accused of seizing his girlfriend Natalya Kent by the throat.
The radio personality was also alleged to have repeatedly pushed Miss Kent, as well as closing a door on her arm and threatening her with violence, to her injury.
Easton, who has also worked at Forth One and Clyde One radio stations, denied the alleged assault.
Prosecutors were forced to drop the case yesterday after Miss Kent, 26, said she had no recollection of any assault.
She said it was her mother that got the police involved – because she did not like Mr Easton.
Miss Kent also claimed that a bruise on her arm may have been from a military fitness class on the day of the alleged assault.
Fiscal depute Sandy Hutchison said the Crown was no longer seeking a conviction after hearing Miss Kent’s evidence – just half an hour into the trial.
The alleged assault was said to have taken place on April 27 this year at a property in Aberdeen.
The court heard that the couple had been together for nearly 10 years but had been working through some relationship issues towards the start of 2014.
Miss Kent said: “For a number of months we’ve had a number of personal struggles that we are working on.
“As a couple we’ve got our problems.”
Mr Hutchison asked if these “problems” had caused on argument on the day of the alleged attack but Miss Kent, the first Crown witness, said she could not say for sure.
She said: “I don’t know.
“It was so long ago.”
The court heard that police had turned up at the house and quizzed her over allegations of domestic abuse reported by her mother.
When asked why her mother had phoned the police, Miss Kent replied: “From my perspective my mum blew something out of proportion – Greig talking to her in a way that she didn’t like.
“He told my mum to stop interfering in our lives.
“She’s a disruptive force in my life.”
The fiscal depute asked Miss Kent several times if she had been assaulted by the radio DJ.
She replied: “Not from my memory”.
The court heard that on April 28, Miss Kent was told by doctors at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary that she had a bruised forearm.
Mr Hutchison said: “Did that man close a door on your arm?”
Miss Kent replied: “Not from my memory.
“I’m not specific about it.
“I know that morning I was doing military fitness and took a tumble at Balmedie beach
“I can’t be sure but it was pretty aggressive training.”
At the end of Miss Kent’s evidence yesterday Mr Hutchison said the Crown was no longer pursuing the conviction.
Sheriff Cowan said the radio presenter was free to go but issued a warning to Miss Kent as she left the witness stand.
The sheriff said: “Remember the story of the little boy who cried wolf.”
Easton and Miss Kent both declined to comment after the case concluded.
