A row over a backpack saw a thug attack his friend with a dumbbell bar before stabbing him multiple times.
Leyton Davies, 23, admitted attacking the man at an address on Don Street, Old Aberdeen, on August 9 last year following an argument over a missing rucksack.
The row ended with Davies striking the man on the head before repeatedly plunging a knife into his leg.
Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard how Davies had left his belongings at the man’s home for safekeeping but turned on his pal when one of his bags seemed to be missing.
Appearing via video link, Davies pleaded guilty to assault to injury and permanent disfigurement by, while acting with another, attacking the man by hitting him with a dumbbell bar, punching and kicking him and stabbing him while inside his home.
He also admitted charges of possession of a knife and the dumbbell.
Accused ‘immediately’ became aggressive after rucksack was discovered missing
Fiscal depute Brian Young told the court that the man had called Davies on August 8 asking him to remove his belongings from his property using the key he had been given.
However, when the man returned the following day he saw that Davies had not picked up his possessions and he allowed his friend to use one of Davies’ rucksacks to go to the supermarket.
Mr Young said: “He saw the accused and his associate approaching on their bicycles.
“The accused and the other man came into the complainer’s property and stood in the living room where immediately the accused said ‘there’s stuff missing’, ‘stuff has been moved’ and referenced the missing rucksack.
“The complainer explained that his friend had taken it to the shop and would return with it shortly.
“The two men then became aggressive toward the complainer – shouting at him to get the rucksack back.”
The court heard that as the man threatened to call the police the men left the property but shortly burst back through the front door with Davies brandishing a metal dumbbell bar.
As the man attempted to shield himself, Davies reigned down blows with the metal bar causing him to fall to the ground.
Davies’ then stabbed the man in the left thigh three times and – as he went to protect his wounded leg – the 23-year old plunged the blade into his right thigh.
He was left with a number of deep cuts to his legs and head as a result of the attack.
Davies was traced by police in Lancashire where he was cautioned and arrested.
Question in court over who first pulled knife
Defence agent Andrew Ormiston described the incident as a “serious offence” but said his client questioned who had first pulled the knife, believing it to be the complainer in the case.
He stated that Davies did not deny stabbing the man in the legs, but claimed it had been the victim who first brandished the blade before it was taken from him and used against him.
Sheriff Buchanan deferred sentence on Davies, of Sycamore Drive, Wesham, in order for a proof of mitigation hearing to take place to establish who first produced the knife on the day in question.
