Police are investigating after a Dundee United fan clashed with an Aberdeen player at Tannadice on Saturday.
The flashpoint towards the end of a frenetic first half involved Dons midfielder Funso Ojo.
As Ojo chased the ball, his momentum carried him over the advertising boards towards supporters in the Eddie Thompson Stand.
Player punished by referee
The incident earned Ojo a second yellow card and a sending off.
It’s understood the fan was later escorted out of the Eddie Thompson Stand behind the goal by stewards.
Police last night that an investigation has been launched.
A spokesman said: “We are aware of an incident involving an Aberdeen FC player and a Dundee United fan during the match at Tannadice Park in Dundee on Saturday, November 20, 2021.
“Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
Dundee United have confirmed they will also be reviewing footage of the incident.
A statement posted on the club’s website said: “Dundee United can confirm that an investigation has commenced into an incident during today’s game.
“We will make no further comment at this time.”
Meanwhile Dons boss Stephen Glass – who was also red carded at half-time – called for more protection for players.
He said: “The referee could protect the player a little bit rather than produce a second yellow.
“It shouldn’t happen.
“He didn’t go looking for the incident in the first place and has hopped the boards after the ball has run out of play.”
