About 30 hay bales went up in flames in a field just off the unclassified B9119 to Easter Ord road at about 4.45pm yesterday. Fire crews attended, but let the blaze burn itself out. Police have confirmed two 13-year-old boys have been charged in connection with the incident. A police spokeswoman added inquiries were still ongoing and that the investigation was at an early stage. Farm owner Colin Pirie described the incident as a “waste of time and money”.
