Two teenagers have been flown to hospital after they became stranded in the water off Peterhead.
Aberdeen Coastguard received a “concerned” call around 12.45pm this afternoon, saying that the young men were “in difficulty” off Craigewan beach, at the mouth of the River Ugie.
The RNLI Peterhead Lifeboat was sent to the scene along with its voluntary crew
A spokesman for Aberdeen Coastguard said: “The casualties managed to swim ashore with difficulty, just as Peterhead lifeboat arrived on scene.
“The casualties were then aided by Peterhead Coastguard team and ambulance paramedics.
“They were then both flown by helicopter to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.”
One of the teenagers is understood to be suffering from “slight hypothermia”.
The lifeboat was stood down at 1.20pm.
