Fire chiefs have raised concerns about the impact of proposed traffic control measures during the construction of a new bridge over the River Don in Aberdeen.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said plans to close the most northerly junction of Gort Road in Tillydrone during the building work could cause problems for vehicles.
In a submission to a city council consultation on the plans, Carol Elliott from the SFRS’ North of Scotland area, said there would be issues for crews attending emergencies at flats at Auchinleck Crescent.
She added: “This is currently the quickest and most direct option for appliances responding to call outs within the high rise properties. The alternative options of the FS using the other Gort Road junction causes us issues due to the high number of cars parked in that area.”
The SFRS suggested creating a one-way street temporarily, with a left turn only into Gort Road from Gordon Mills Road.
A report to a meeting of the local authority’s communities, housing and infrastructure committee next week says talks have since taken place between the SFRS and the council’s resident engineer.
Engineering assistant Michael Cowie said a “fire path” could be created to allow emergency vehicles to pass along the route used currently.
Meanwhile, bus operator First Aberdeen also raised concerns about enforcement of a planned “bus gate” on Bedford Road.
Under the council plans, all traffic apart from buses would be prevented from entering Bedford Road at the St Machar Drive roundabout end.
First commercial manager Daniel Laird said a camera should be installed to ensure motorists comply with the rules and to improve the reliability of bus services.
First also called for “bus priority measures” at major junctions on the A96 Great Northern Road corridor.
Froghall, Powis and Sunnybank community council also responded to the consultation, raising a number of issues relating to the bus gate plan.
Among the suggestions are opening up traffic from Bedford Avenue onto St Machar Drive, and installing a priority traffic light system at Elmbank Terrace.
Councillors on the communities, housing and infrastructure committee will consider the consultation responses at a meeting on Tuesday.
