A north-east cemetery which was left battered by a series of storms is set to be restored.
Work to repair the collapsed walls of a burial ground in Auchterless could begin within weeks as Aberdeenshire councillors consider granting planning permission.
In a report to the Formartine area committee, planning boss Stephen Archer says: “The wall and railings have been extensively storm damaged and require repair and replacement.”
Part of Auchterless Parish Church, work to restore the historic burial ground will require councillors to grant listed building consent as well.
As such planners – who have recommended the project for approval – have laid down stringent restrictions on the work.
No power tools may be used to repair the boundary wall and original materials salvaged from the site must be used.
The local authority’s archaeology department also stressed that the site is covered by the laws of Sepulcher and that any remains unearthed must be reported to the police.
It is expected committee members will give the go ahead.
