A motoring enthusiast has been banned from driving after he was caught doing more than twice the speed limit on a city-centre road.
Luke Main appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday and admitted driving dangerously on July 21 last year.
The court heard the 26-year-old had been caught in West Tullos Road driving at speeds in excess of 80mph in a 40mph zone.
Fiscal depute Rosie Cook said that at one point Main also overtook four cars while travelling at excessive speeds on the dual carriageway.
When he was stopped by police, who followed him after they saw his silver Honda Civic Type R accelerate harshly off the roundabout, he said he had no explanation for why he had been speeding.
Representing Main, of 64 Spital, Aberdeen, solicitor Peter Keene said that client worked in the parts department at a Volkswagen garage and was “very highly thought of there”.
He said that as a result of his conviction Main may lose his job as he would no longer be able to deliver parts to remote areas.
Sheriff Graham Buchanan was shown CCTV foootage Main’s driving which had been captured by a nearby police car’s onboard camera.
He said that although the speeding was irresponsible he had seen far worse cases of dangerous driving during his time as a sheriff.
Sheriff Buchanan agreed to limit Main’s ban to one year.
He will have to sit an extended test before he can drive again.
Main was also fined £1,350.
Sheriff Buchanan said he had also limited the fine having considered his income may be restricted if he lost his job.
