Music lovers can attend an 11-hour DJ session today being held in memory of a north-east man killed as he prepared to head to RockNess.
Ian Buchanan was picking up last-minute supplies for the Highlands music festival when the car he was a passenger in crashed near Kemnay in June 2010.
At last year’s festival on the banks of Loch Ness, Fatboy Slim dedicated his famous tune Right Here, Right Now to the 22-year-old.
With no RockNess this summer, a battle of the DJs event was held to remember Mr Buchanan.
And now DJs will join forces again today to raise money for Don’t You Forget About Me, a support group set up by Mr Buchanan’s mother June Ross.
The Electro House Carnival will be held in the Burnett Arms at Kemnay from 1pm-12.30am.
About 20 electro and hard house DJs will perform over 11 hours in three rooms at the event, and attendees are being urged to get into the carnival spirit by donning face paint and fancy dress.
Ms Ross, who earlier this week voiced her dismay after new figures revealed more people were killed on north and north-east roads last year than in any other part of Scotland, said the DJ night was a timely reminder for young motorists to take care.
She said: “In a week where it’s been highlighted to me that Grampian, followed closely by the Highlands and islands, is top of the stats table with deaths on the road, this event comes as a welcome and positive reinforcement to young people that it can happen to them.
“The grief that follows a loss is forever and each year develops different hurdles and heartache, so dance, dance, dance – but remember, safe drive, stay alive.”
Entry on the door is £5, or £2.50 for those who turn up in carnival or masquerade-themed fancy dress.
