An army bomb disposal team has been called to assist police after a suspicious package was discovered at a north east engineering plant.
Police, fire and ambulances crews were all sent to Score Europe’s Peterhead HQ at around 11am today after the discovery was made.
It is the second time this year that emergency services have been called to the site, after a similar package was discovered on the site in March.
A police spokesman said: “As part of our response to the incident, an Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has been requested to assist as a precaution as we continue to asses the package.”
Three fire appliances, two from Peterhead and one from North Anderson Drive, Aberdeen, along with two specialist units were earlier called to the scene.
Earlier, a police spokesman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that inquiries are on-going into a suspicious package which was sent to Score Europe in Peterhead. Officers were alerted to the package at 11.30am today.
“Officers have taken possession of the package and are liaising with partners to establish the circumstances. There’s no immediate danger and we would like to reassure members of the public that appropriate action is being taken.”
A fire and rescue spokeswoman said: “We were there but we have left, it’s in the hands of the police. We did nothing, we weren’t required.”
An ambulance spokeswoman confirmed they had a specialist response team on standby at Score Europe, but have since been called away.
In June, army bomb disposal experts were sent to the base after a parcel, believed to have contained mechanical parts, was delivered to a valve manufacturing workshop at the rear of Score’s main building.
