A children’s cancer charity is calling on volunteers to celebrate the New Year with a bracing dip in the North Sea.
Over the years, superheroes, fairies, Mr and Mrs Claus and even Captain Hook have all raced into the chilly waters at Stonehaven harbour to raise money for Clic Sargent.
Now the charity is accepting entries for its seventh New Year’s Day Dip.
Participants are asked to raise a minimum of £100 sponsorship and will each receive a cup of soup and nip of whisky to help them warm up afterwards.
Fancy dress is optional but encouraged, with a special prize for the best costume.
Holly Taylor, the charity’s fundraising manager for the north-east and Shetland, is taking part in the fundraiser this time round.
She said: “I’m sure there are lots of locals who will join in the fun and help us raise much-needed funds to make a difference to the lives of children and young people with cancer in the north-east of Scotland.
“Whether you’ll be braving the dip yourself or coming to support a ‘dip and nipper’ we would love to see you there.”
More than 80 hardy souls took to the water – which was a relatively balmy 7C – last year and raised more than £12,000.
All proceeds from this year’s dip and nip will help Clic Sargent provide vital services, pay grants to families with a child suffering from cancer, and cover the cost of accommodation close to the main children’s cancer centres.
