A man who admitted being concerned in the supply of more than £30,000 worth of class A drugs in Aberdeen has been jailed.
Irving Adjei was locked up for 30 months yesterday after he was caught with heroin and cocaine worth thousands of pounds at Aberdeen Railway Station on January 3 this year.
Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard he and his co-accused had been seen by police getting into a taxi with a holdall.
Fiscal depute Gavin Letford said it was around 11.05am when officers noticed the pair and saw Adjei staring nervously at them through the taxi window.
As a result, the officers approached the car and asked the men why they were in Aberdeen.
Mr Letford said that Adjei said he was visiting a friend, but could provide no further details about who this friend was or where they lived.
Mr Letford said the officers suspected that the men may be carrying drugs and arrested them in order to carry out a search of their possessions.
When the police opened the bag Adjei was carrying they found numerous packages containing a cream-coloured powder and other packages containing a brown-coloured substance.
When they were forensically analysed they were found to contain heroin and cocaine.
Mr Letford said it was estimated the value of the cocaine was about £21,600 and the heroin was believed to be worth about £16,320.
Police also found Adjei to be in possession of a lock knife.
His agent, solicitor Michael Burnett, said his client had been acting as a courier for drug dealers in London in order to pay off some debts he owed.
Mr Burnett said Adjei, 20, knew that he would have been carrying either drugs or money, however he had no idea exactly how much or the values of the drugs.
Sentencing Adjei, of Flat 61 Hawkinge, Gloucester, Sheriff William Summers said there was no alternative but to send him to jail for his involvement in bringing a “substantial” quantity of drugs into Aberdeen.
