Public buildings in Aberdeen will have free wireless internet thanks to an investment from the UK government.
Aberdeen is one of three Scottish cities selected for an initiative, which will turn 1,000 community centres, libraries, museums and sporting complexes across the country into wi-fi hotspots.
The scheme is part of a £150million investment programme started by the UK government aiming to transform the digital capabilities of cities.
Aberdeen has been chosen along with Edinburgh and Perth, with wi-fi at several of the chosen buildings already active.
Scottish Secretary Alistair Carmichael said: “Whether you live in Aberdeen or in one of our most remote communities, the UK Government is working to ensure that Scotland is at the heart of the UK’s digital transformation.
“Wi-fi is a prime example of cutting edge technology that has increasingly become an essential part of everyday life. This announcement brings this transformation into the heart of Aberdeen and some of the city’s most recognisable locations.”
All buildings should be fitted with the service by March 2015.
