A charity north-east fireworks display has won praise from the First Minister.
The event, at the New Deer showground on Saturday, attracted thousands of people and raised more than £3,000 for Ucan.
It was organised by Cuminestown man John Burdon to say thank you to the charity for helping him to beat bladder cancer.
First Minister Alex Salmond has now wished Mr Burdon well in his plans to hold another show nest year.
“The fireworks display was absolutely amazing and it was great to see so many people there on the night to support Ucan,” he said.
“John, his wife Anna, and all the other volunteers should be very proud of themselves for organising such a wonderful event.”
The money raised will help Ucan’s campaign to bring a robotic surgery unit to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
The charity’s efforts received a significant boost recently with the announcement of a £1million investment by the Scottish Government.
Mr Burdon said he was “overwhelmed” by the support shown for the event.
“We calculated there were over 3,000 people having a great time and the fireworks and supporting acts were out of this world,” he said.
“In all, it was a terrific evening and we’re pleased that Ucan did well out of it.”
Last night, the charity’s fundraising manager, Fiona Pearson, paid tribute to the work of the Burdon family and volunteers.
She added: “Thanks also to the large crowd who came to support the inaugural event and were so generous in making donations for the campaign.”
Donations are still being accepted. By last night the total amount raised had reached £3,389.
