An Aberdeen teenager has been banned from the roads after admitting dangerous driving.
Matthew Jolly, from Dyce, hit speeds of 127mph while driving on the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee road.
The 19-year old was appearing at Dundee Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to the offence.
The court heard that at about 8pm on June 27 this year, Jolly was driving his Renault Clio near Brechin.
Jolly claimed he had been chatting with friends in the car and hadn’t noticed reaching such high speeds on the 70mph-limit dual carriageway.
However, Sheriff Gregor Murray, presiding, dismissed Jolly’s claims and said he had bought “one of the fastest hot hatches on the market” and “knew what he was doing”.
The sheriff banned Jolly from driving for 18 months and also handed out a 120-hour community payback order.
