A busy Aberdeen road will be shut for three weeks from Monday for flood works.
Scottish Water is investigating the cause of sewer flooding in the Trinity Quay area as part of a wider project to tackle the problem permanently.
Now the agency has announced that Guild Street will be closed to westbound traffic from Monday.
Motorists will only be able to turn left onto Market Street during the three-week works. The lane straight on to Guild Street will be closed.
Businesses and homes in the Merchant Quarter have repeatedly suffered flooding over the past few years, but the project to ease the problem has been delayed by the pandemic.
Scottish Water and its delivery partner Caledonia Water Alliance will now carry out “essential” ground works that will help shape plans to alleviate sewer flooding.
A spokeswoman for Scottish Water said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this phase of essential work to confirm the design for a proposed investment to address sewer flooding in this important part of the city centre. We would ask all road users to follow the signs that will be in place and allow some extra time for their journeys where possible.
“The progress of our work to address sewer flooding in the Merchant Quarter has been affected over the past 18 months by the pandemic and the changes to the road network that were necessary in response.
“We are grateful for the assistance we have had from the roads authority with renewed preparations in recent months – and hope to be able to update customers and stakeholders on our plans once the findings of this current work have been received and assessed.”
