Aberdeen residents have donated £119,000 to the Ebola appeal set up by Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).
The DEC have said that they have humbled by the magnitude of donations from across the United Kingdom where over £14 million has been raised to help those who have been affected by the disease which has devastated communities in Sierra Leone and Liberia.
DEC Chief Executive Saleh Saeed said: “The people of Aberdeen have been incredibly generous and I want to thank each and every one of those who have donated for their kind support. This money will help us continue to deliver aid to millions who have been affected by the deadly Ebola outbreak.”
A £25 donation can protect three families from the deadly disease by providing them with cleaning kits including bleach, soap and buckets. A £50 donation can provide basic protective clothing such as gloves, masks, boots and gowns for three volunteers helping in West Africa.
Donations can be made at a high street bank or a post office, as well as at
