Aberdeen Football Club remembered the players and staff who made the ultimate sacrifice during both world wars yesterday.
The club held a wreath laying ceremony in the Richard Donald stand at Pittodrie, where a memorial lists the names of the players and staff lost in the conflicts.
Between 1914 and 1918, a total of 33 Dons players and members of staff left to serve. Eight lost their lives, including Ellon brothers Charles and James Neilson.
There were other former players who were killed, including one-time club captain Alex Halkett.
In the 1940s, two promising young players, John Waran Campbell and George Scott, who served with the Royal Air Force, were killed.
Yesterday’s memorial was organised by the AFC Heritage Trust, and was attended by various representatives from the armed forces, including the Gordon Highlanders and the Ghurkhas.
AFC chairman Stewart Milne and vice-chairman George Yule were also among the dozens of people who took part.
A special tribute to the many Aberdeen supporters who also lost their lives was unveiled.
