Two long-serving employees at one of Peterhead’s main job providers have been recognised with the official naming of the firm’s workplace in their honour.
Both locals to the area, Andrew Buchan, 76, and Robertson Strachan, 88, were yesterday described as vital elements of Score Group plc.
Said to be a tribute to their dedication and skills over the 38 years they had been with the now worldwide company, Score Group chairman Charles Ritchie had the job of unveiling the firm’s Wellbank machine shop as ‘The Andrew Buchan & Robertson Strachan Building’.
A spokesman for Score Group said: “Many senior engineers in Score Group and elsewhere have good reason to be thankful for the guidance and encouragement given by Robbie and Andrew during their earlier careers.
“They are surely great examples of the fact that age is no barrier when pursuing and developing a career in engineering,” he added.
Mr Ritchie additionally paid tribute to the men by describing them as the “cornerstones of Score’s early machining projects.”
He went on to thank the two for their huge contributions to the success of Score Group and, on behalf of present and former colleagues, wished them well in their retirements.
Mr Buchan had joined the company in 1985 while Mr Strachan joined in 1989 and retired in 1998.
As of next week, Mr Buchan will join his former colleague in retirement.
In the past 12 months, the company has expanded into the neighbouring town of Fraserburgh and struck deal to take over the disused Peterhead prison with the plan to create 50 jobs over the next three years.
Based in Peterhead, Score Group provides engineering, research, design, supply, repair, manufacturing and training services around the globe.
