VisitAberdeen is appealing for Christmas cracker pullers to join them in Aberdeen next month in a world record attempt.
The group hopes cracker pullers will show up to the Bon Accord Centre on Saturday, December 6 to break the world record for the longest Christmas cracker pulling chain.
Steve Harris, chief executive of VisitAberdeen, said: “Aberdeen is a magical place at Christmas time and we’re always looking for unusual ways to highlight the festive spirit and activities in the city.”
Christmas Cracker Caroline Will and six-year-old Chloe Kermoal launched the attempt, and appealed for people to get involved.
The attempt is sponsored by Thistle Hotels, who have supplied more than 2,500 crackers in the hope of smashing the existing record which was set in Birmingham last year. The chain consisted of 749 people.
Craig Stevenson, centre manager at the Bon Accord Centre said: “The first Saturday in December is one of the biggest shopping days in the annual calendar. The centre’s 70 shops and restaurants expect to experience more than 50,000 shoppers and we hope that more than 749 of them will join the world record attempt.”
Cracker pullers are invited to visit the Bon Accord Centre atrium on the day with registration starting at 12pm and the countdown to the big bang at 1pm. In order for the attempt to be considered by Guinness World Records, all participants must register.
