An Aberdeen band could be on its way to stardom after reaching the final of a prestigious talent contest.
Franklin, made up of five Aberdeen teenagers, recently got through to the final of SoundWave, one of the biggest unsigned band competitions in the UK.
The final will take place in November next year at Glasgow’s O2 Academy venue, where bands such as The Manic Street Preachers and The Killers have played in the past. The audience will mostly be made up of representatives from the music industry.
The band is made up of guitarists Lewis Harper, 19, and Jack Lovie, 18, singer Jessica Johnston, 17, bassist Peter Tait, 18, and drummer Nairn Milne, 18.
Lewis, a former pupil of Kincorth Academy, said the band never expected to get through the first stage, let alone reach the final.
He said: “We were all completely shocked we got through each stage, to be honest.
“When we got through to the third stage, which was a live audition, we got to hear the other bands for the first time and the competition was pretty high.
“We knew our own capabilities but it was still a surprise when we got the call.”
The band were formed in April of last year and describe themselves as “alternative rock”.
Lewis continued: “The judges at the live stage told us we were incredibly energetic and had great chemistry for being together for such a short time.
“I think the enthusiasm we show when we play is part of the reason we were chosen and also our age too.
“We’ve all realised this is what we want to do.”
Now the band intend to spend the next two months practising in the D-Range rehearsal studio in Aberdeen’s Abergeldie Terrace and honing their live performances at venues across the city.
Lewis added: “Jessica had the idea to do a more intimate gig to get a feel of how each song sounds.
“We have about six or seven songs we could play, depending on how long our set is.
“This will be the biggest gig the band has played so we will be nervous but at the same time it’s exciting.”
