A car thief who killed an Aberdeen dad in a horrific hit-and-run is one of north-west England’s most wanted men.
Shaun Rimmer sparked a police chase that ended in the fatal crash when he took off at speed through the streets of the Granite City in August last year.
Rimmer, 28, struck dad-of-three Simon Musabayana as he crossed Great Northern Road throwing him onto the windscreen and over the roof of the vehicle.
Mental health nurse Mr Musabayana, 48, died in hospital 26 days after the fatal collision.
Two weeks after the crash – and while still not arrested for the Aberdeen incident – Rimmer’s face appeared as part of Operation Hunter, Lancashire Police’s campaign to target some of the county’s most wanted offenders.
He was being sought in connection with a burglary on August 16 – the same day he killed Mr Musabayana.
It was stated that Rimmer had links to Leyland, Liverpool, Preston, Bamber Bridge, Penwortham and Clayton-le-Woods in the Lancashire region.
Rimmer had previously been jailed for seven years for aggravated burglary and 57 months for kidnapping at Liverpool Crown Court in April 2015.
He was later jailed for a further 16 months and banned from driving for almost four years at the same court after he was convicted of taking and driving away a vehicle, dangerous driving and going equipped for theft.
The car Rimmer was driving when he killed Mr Musabayana was fitted with false registration plates and had been taken without the consent of the owner in Warrington, in Cheshire, 12 days before the fatal collision.
Forensic examination of the extensively damaged car linked Rimmer to the vehicle. He was later arrested in Liverpool.
He later abandoned the car.
Devastating injuries
Rimmer was jailed for eight years at the High Court in Edinburgh on April 2 this year.
The court heard that Mr Musabayana was “a much-loved father, husband and son” and that his death had a “devastating impact” on his family.
He was residing at a flat at Great Northern Road, Aberdeen, and worked at the city’s Royal Cornhill Hospital.
Mr Musabayana suffered serious injuries, including a traumatic brain injury, a fractured skull, fractured pelvis and multiple facial fractures.
Before his death, he underwent operations, including to amputate his right arm and left leg, and remained in critical care.
