A north-east gym has been awarded an £80,000 grant to help strengthen fitness facilities for the community.
The funding from the national agency for sport, Sportscotland, will allow Albert Ross and his team at Fraserburgh Fitness Centre to expand the facility.
Last night fitness centre founder Mr Ross said: “We’re a bit squashed for space at the moment, so we want to create something bigger and better.
“There are more people getting into fitness now and they deserve the best facilities they can get.
“The total cost of the project is £165,000 so it’s a huge investment from Sportscotland
“It is only through the help of organisations like them that groups like ours can supply the local community with the sporting facilities they deserve.”
The extension requires the demolition of old buildings at the rear of the existing gym. The new space will be three times the size of the existing fitness area.
Sportscotland chief executive Stewart Harris said: “We are pleased that we are able to make this award of £80,000 to the Fraserburgh Fitness Centre as it is a vital part of allowing the community access to sports facilities.
“Our aim is to create a world class sporting system at every level in Scotland and this award for the people of Fraserburgh is another step in that journey.”
Work on the project will begin in early April 2015 and is expected to last for around two months.
