Calling all Daves, Davids and Davys – your city needs you for a special Christmas carol event this weekend.
Tourism bosses at VisitAberdeen are summoning as many people with the name as possible for a second rendition of that quintessential festive song Once in Royal David’s City.
Organisers hope they can attract even more than the 121 Davids who turned up to participate in last year’s choir.
The singers will perform in the Castlegate tomorrow as the city’s Christmas lights are turned and the crowds turn out for a festive parade.
Steve Harris, chief executive of VisitAberdeen, said: “We were delighted with the turnout last year, but we’re convinced that we can do better.
“The name David is always in the top 50 names in Scotland so we are confident that we can top last year’s choir and make this year’s even bigger.
“We have been appealing to Davids to join in for the last few weeks, and the response has been fantastic. Dozens of Davids have got in touch via social media to pledge their support, and we have even seen some activity from famous Davids.
“Choirmaster Gareth Malone and composer Paul Mealor have also shown their support for the massed choir.”
Participants will be asked to provide ID to prove they are legitimate Daves before the sing-song takes place at 3pm tomorrow.
