The Crown Office has revealed it is still investigating the death of a 61-year-old north-east man in a car crash early last month.
Henry McPherson, known as Harry, and his female passenger were both trapped inside their grey Vauxhall Corsa which had been in collision with a blue Ford Focus C-Max on the A952 Mintlaw to Toll of Birness road in the evening of October 3.
Last night, a spokesman for the Crown said that their office was still in discussions with the deceased’s family.
“The investigation into the death, under the direction of Scottish Fatalities Investigation Unit (SFIU), is ongoing and the family will continue to be kept updated in relation to any significant developments,” he said.
The SFIU is a specialist unit which investigates all sudden, suspicious, accidental and unexplained deaths.
Mr McPherson’s vehicle had come to rest on its side on a grass embankment following the crash. He died at the scene.
His female passenger as well as the female driver of the Ford, who was travelling alone, both had to be cut free from the wreckage by firefighters.
Both women were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with what was described as serious injuries.
The accident happened on the stretch of the A952 at a series of bends near Clola, south of Mintlaw. It is understood the Ford Focus was travelling south and Mr McPherson, from St Fergus, was heading north when the crash happened.
A police spokeswoman confirmed that they had submitted their report to the fiscal, and that they would now decide if charges would be brought against anyone involved.
