Rocket man Sir Elton John is to land in Aberdeen for the first time in 10 years for a sensational outdoor show.
The A-list performer and his band will perform at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on Saturday, June 20 as part of a European Tour.
Around 14,000 fans will see the star at an outdoor arena constructed at the venue for the very first time.
Sir Elton, one of the world’s most famous songwriters, said he “jumped at the chance” to return to the Granite City, given the success of his sell-out Pittodrie show in 2005.
He said: “Ten years is too long! I can still remember playing at The Music Hall at my first gig in the Granite City in 1972, and am very grateful to the AECC for giving us the chance to construct our own stage for this show.
“I cannot wait to bring my band which includes guitarist Davey Johnstone from Scotland, who has been with me since 1972, back to Aberdeen. I am sure we will all have a fantastic time.”
Sir Elton’s team will be creating the outdoor arena from scratch on the southside of the AECC complex.
At the centre will be a 164ft wide stage which will stand 65ft high.
Sir Elton’s spokesman said the tour will feature iconic hits and classic album tracks from his five-decade career, including a selection of songs from his highly acclaimed album, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, which recently celebrated its 40th anniversary with a Deluxe Edition.
Brian Horsburgh, AECC’s managing director said: “It is fantastic that a performer of his calibre has chosen to include Aberdeen as part of his tour.
“The building of the specially constructed outdoor arena shows the flexibility of AECC when bringing artists to the region.”
Since his career began in 1969, Sir Elton has played more than 3,500 concerts in more than 80 countries.
He is one of the top-selling solo artists of all time, with 37 gold and 27 multi-platinum albums as well as 58 Billboard Top 40 singles, and he has sold more than 250 million records worldwide.
Tickets go on sale to the public tomorrow (Friday) at 9am.
