An Aberdeen woman was arrested at Heathrow Airport before going on holiday – for not paying a £200 court fine.
The woman had failed to attend a fines hearing at Aberdeen Justice of the Peace Court and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
She was stopped by Borders Police officers at Heathrow and warned that if she did not pay the fine on the spot, she would be taken to court to appear from custody.
Only after she paid the sum in full was she allowed to continue on her way for her holiday.
Scottish Court Service (SCS) Chief Operations Officer Cliff Binning warned: “If you are planning a trip abroad this festive season, you should ensure that all outstanding fines are paid before booking your ticket.
“Otherwise you risk being stopped at the airport by the police and having your travel plans disrupted.”
