A Fraserburgh councillor has urged for the planned dualling of the A90 between Balmedie and Tipperty to be extended to the north-east town.
Councillor Ian Tait (Independent) believes that the upgrade works would boost the Fraserburgh economy and make commuting safer.
His call comes following a similar plea to extend the A90 dualling between Ellon and Peterhead.
Councillor Tait said: “I believe that dualling the A90 right up to Fraserburgh is essential for regenerating the Fraserburgh economy.”
He added that the Scottish Government move to stop the Energetica development corridor – which will encourage investment and development north of Aberdeen – at Peterhead had been a “bad decision” for Fraserburgh.
Councillor Tait added: “I would not want the Scottish Government to dual the road to Peterhead and leave Fraserburgh out in the cold again.
“Daily, we read about the benefits Peterhead is getting through this. I do not grudge any community getting on, but Fraserburgh should have the same level playing field as Peterhead. Dualling up to Fraserburgh is exactly what all of us in Fraserburgh want and what should happen.”
Recently, Ellon councillor Gillian Owen (Conservative) wrote to Transport Minister Keith Brown on her wish to see the busy Ellon to Peterhead road upgraded.
Her involvement followed Mr Brown giving his “vision” of the north-east’s transport links and, in particular, the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route bypass.
Mr Brown described the new bypass as “a priority for the Scottish Government”, adding: “In terms of further consideration of the transport links between Fraserburgh, Peterhead and Aberdeen, Transport Scotland is working with Nestrans which is progressing a study.”
In her reply, Councillor Owen wrote: “It is disturbing that a councillor like myself has sought answers from a more senior representative in government, yet all I am treated to is a history lesson on the AWPR.
“What concerns me more is your vision for the north-east and in particular the Energetica Corridor to Peterhead. It is the future I need your comments on.”
A Scottish Government spokesman said it would respond to Councillor Owen in due course.
