The Met Office has warned drivers to be extremely careful on the roads as “widespread icy patches” are expected to develop. “The public should be aware of the risk of ice on untreated surfaces following overnight rain,” a forecaster said. “A band of rain will move east across northwestern UK during Thursday evening and Friday morning. “Clear skies will follow allowing surfaces to fall below freezing, giving a risk of ice on untreated surfaces.” Gritters have been out in force across the region as temperatures have plummeted this week.
