The pensioner knocked down in an Aberdeenshire town earlier this week has died in hospital.
The 81-year-old had been seriously injured in the incident which happened in Oldmeldrum on Tuesday.
She was taken by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where she passed away yesterday.
Police Scotland said in a statement: “Police can confirm that following a road traffic collision on Eavern Place, Oldmeldrum on Tuesday, December 2, an 81-year-old woman has now sadly died.
“The collision between a grey Audi A4 and a pedestrian occurred at around 8.20am and the road was closed for a number of hours to allow for a collision investigation to be completed.
“As is standard with all fatal road traffic collisions, a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
The woman was a resident of Wyverie Court, a sheltered accommodation in Oldmeldrum, which is operated by Aberdeenshire Council.
Local councillor Allan Hendry said last night: “These events always impact greatly on the family. It’s a great tragedy that no one likes to happen.
“My own mother was killed in an accident a number of years ago so I know the effect it has on the families.
“But it also affects the local communities and there would be no doubt she would have been well-known in the local area.”
Councillor Paul Johnstone added: “I don’t know what happened. People are particularly shocked and will be upset at this tragedy in Oldmeldrum. It is a quiet street where this is not expected to happen.
“There is nothing much more to be said as we don’t know the circumstances.”
Mr Johnstone said following the incident on Tuesday: “This is an uncommon spot for an accident. Few cars would use the route other than for getting to the academy but this is not the main route for that.
“Cars are not common on this road. An 81-year-old woman could easily have been crossing the road and unexpectedly come across a car.
