The search for a missing north-east man has been scaled back, five days after he was last seen.
Martin Thomson, 62, vanished from his Huntly home on Wednesday.
Police initially focused their search in the local area, but on Friday his black Mitsubushi Shogun 4×4 was discovered 30 miles away in the port of Gardenstown.
A 12-strong coastguard team was drafted in to help dozens of police officers, dogs and an RAF helicopter comb the dramatic coastline.
A police marine and dive unit was also sent to the village on the Moray coast.
And on Sunday a four-man lifeboat crew from Macduff was called in to assist by the coastguard.
They searched from Old Haven east to Pennan Head and then around Gamrie Bay.
However, the coastguard were not involved in yesterday’s operation and last night a spokeswoman said they “were not expecting to take part again.”
The police presence in the cliff-side village was also noticeably smaller yesterday and one resident said the teams had left by mid-afternoon.
Rescue efforts have been hampered by rapidly changing weather, including sleet, hail and high winds.
Mr Thomson was reported missing around 7pm on Wednesday and police quickly began looking for his missing car, which has the registration number SW64GGO.
Inspector Martin Burgess, who is leading the search operation, said: “The key to our search was the vehicle.
“It’s very much thanks to the media and the public we recovered his vehicle.”
Investigating officers have not ruled anything out and police officers will continue the hunt today.
Mr Thomson is 5ft 2in, with balding, strawberry blond hair and is believed to be wearing industrial or work clothes.
His family were unavailable for comment last night.
