A human resources manager has been placed on the sex offenders’ register – for slapping a woman on the bottom during a drunken night out.
Graham Thomson sexually assaulted the married woman at the Monkey House, Aberdeen, on June 22 this year.
And after he carried out the sex attack he then turned on her husband and repeatedly punched him to the head.
Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard that the 32-year-old had been out drinking with friends during the evening.
Fiscal depute Felicity Merson said that the couple were initially aware of Thomson as they spotted him standing by the bar and seemed “highly under the influence of alcohol”.
Without any invitation Thomson then made his way over to their table and sat down next to the woman before placing his hand on her right leg.
Mrs Merson said that the woman believed that this was not a mistake and said she felt uncomfortable and told her husband she wanted to leave.
The fiscal depute said: “As she stood up to leave the accused slapped her on the buttocks. This was described as a fair whack and produced a slapping noise.
“The complainer’s husband saw this and asked the accused what he was doing.
“There was a small scuffle between the two and the accused and the complainer fell to the floor.”
Mrs Merson said as they fell Thomson ended up on top of the man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, and whilst in that position he threw several punches at the man’s head.
The court heard that the woman then tried to pull her husband away from Thomson and security staff came to take Thomson away. Police were then called.
Thomson admitted committing both assault offences when he appeared in court yesterday.
Representing Thomson, of 19 Betteral Road, Newmachar, solicitor John Hardie said his client, a HR manager for an offshore services company, had been extremely drunk that night.
He said that it was very unusual for Thomson to be drinking at all and had been mixing alcohol with prescription medication for a recently diagnosed heart condition.
Mr Hardie said his client had been unaware of the affect alcohol and the medication combined would have on him.
He said: “He does not have any other explanation for his behaviour other than that it was incredibly out of character.”
Sheriff Graham Buchanan deferred sentence on Thomson for background reports to be carried out into his character and placed him on the Sex Offenders’ Register.
