Two 16-year-old girls are amongst seven people now in custody following today’s dramatic car chase through Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen.
The chase, part of the planned Operation Ruby and the investigation into several stolen vehicles in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, took cars through Inverurie and Aberdeen, with one of the alleged stolen cars eventually crashing on the platform at Inverurie Train Station.
Police have confirmed that the operation involved specialist resources from roads policing and air support and that seven people are now being help in custody.
Four females, two aged 16 and two aged 23, and three males aged 17, 18 and 21 have been detained as a result of the operation.
The recovered vehicles, a BMW X5, an Audi Q5 and a VW Golf had been stolen within the last two weeks.
Chief Inspector Richard Craig said: “I would like to thank members of the public for their continued assistance and support.
“I would reassure our communities that we will continue to target car crime. Anyone with concerns can contact us on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you wish to remain anonymous.”
Meanwhile the police are appealing for more help as they still hunt down a black Audi A1 registration SV61 YRL or W23 JLG and a white Vauxhall Combo Van registration SV61 XV.
The Chief Inspector added: “Anyone who has seen these vehicles parked in their street or within a car park in their local community should contact Police Scotland on 101. On some occasions these vehicles have been driven recklessly in the City and Shire endangering other road users.
“As part of Operation Ruby we are using specialist police resources from across the country including air support to assist local officers in the investigation and recovery of these vehicles.
“We would urge members of the public to continue to take simple security measures to avoid becoming the victim of crime.
“Always lock your cars when leaving them unattended and keep vehicle keys out of reach from your front door. It is also good advice to not leave any valuables on display within vehicles.
“Locking your vehicle and making it difficult for thieves to obtain the keys will deter them.”
