Police say they making inquiries after a beehive and its population were stolen in Aberdeenshire on World Bee Day.
The hive was taken from a field at Potterton on the B999 Aberdeen to Pitmedden road on Friday, May 20.
It belonged to a young girl Marla, a friend’s daughter of Brian Gall of Cove Honey Bees, whose workshop is at Hatton of Fintray.
Absolutely disgusting
In a Facebook post, a spokesman for Cove Honey Bees, said: “We went up to see Marla’s bees to see how they was getting on, her first hive. Some selfish person has stolen the bees and the hive from the field at Potterton next to the oil seed rape field on the B999.
“Absolutely disgusting and shocking this has happened.
“This was the swarm I rescued into the box a few weeks back.
Well that swarm didn't go far at all, always good to leave 5 frames of drawen frames in a hive around the Apiary incase a hive is looking to swarm. pic.twitter.com/LNqs8oKCYq

“The beehive itself is a beige colour with the numbers B21025 on the back, it also has a green extension box on the top with a bright yellow lid and black pull strap.
“It’s probably well gone by now but worth putting it out there, incase someone sees it up for sale.
“Not a great World Bee Day for my little bee keeper Marla.”
United Nations designated by World Bee Day is held on May 20 to raise awareness of the insects and their contribution to sustainable development.
A police spokesman said: “We received a report of the theft of a beehive from land near the B999 at Potterton around 9.50pm on Friday, May 20.
“Inquiries are ongoing and at an early stage.”
