Specialist crime officers and sniffer dogs were yesterday called into action in as Aberdeen police honed in on the city’s drug dealers.
Nine people were detained in connection with the supply of drugs in Torry as police enacted 12 warrants in the area.
The Torry community policing team were assisted by Police Scotland’s national specialist crime division in the operation.
The operation aimed to tackle the supply of drugs in the Torry area as a whole in an operation they described as “large scale”.
It aimed to take local drug dealers “out of circulation”.
Detective inspector Doug Norris from Police Scotland’s specialist crime division said: “Today’s operation was a joint operation between the community policing team and specialist crime unit. It is part of a long running operation which is on-going.
“It was hailed today as a huge success for Police Scotland as a whole, we had national resources pulled together to deal with what was a community problem within the Torry area of Aberdeen.
“It will have a positive impact on the local community of Torry and these people within that community that suffer the ill effects of the drug trade.
“It is a real issue for these people, it affects all areas of society but hopefully the actions today will provide some sort of reassurance to the public in the Torry area.”
Torry councillor, Yvonne Allan, said: “The people of Torry are going to be really pleased about that because it’s an issue for a lot of folk. People want to look after their kids, they don’t want children to be offered drugs in the area. It’s good the police are keeping their fingers on the pulse.”
The operation is on-going with officers carrying out inquiries into several other individuals.
