Efforts to launch a therapeutic roof garden at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary have blossomed.
Fundraising has moved beyond the £500,000 mark and the roof is now ready for the garden’s implementation.
It will feature mature trees, shrubs and plants with walkaways suitable for patients in wheelchairs or hospital beds and is set for completion in spring next year. Designs are now being finalised.
The current target for donations is £650,000 and it has been aided by the help of a £10,000 donation from global energy company Nexen Petroleum UK.
The leader of the garden project, NHS Grampian Healthcare Chaplain Reverend James Falconer, said:
“We are delighted to have reached this stage and NHS Grampian is very grateful to the many, many people, companies and organisations who have generously donated money and support to the appeal.
“N G Bailey, one of the contractors involved in the construction of the garden space, has kindly gifted and installed Christmas lights on the Roof Garden’s south facing glass wall.
This attractive display can be seen from the approach to the new entrance to ARI’s Emergency Department and by many inpatients, families, visitors and staff, looking onto the garden site from nearby wards.”
