Demolition work on the iconic Aberdeen Market has finally come to an end after 10 weeks, making way for a new modern venue.
The building, which was in the heart of the Granite City, has been left empty since closing in March 2020.
Following a consultation by Aberdeen City Council in May 2021, the decision was made to demolish the building and replace it with a modern multipurpose retail space.
Demolition work began in March 2022 and on June 1, the last remains of Aberdeen Market were reduced to rubble.
New £50 million market on the way
It is expected the new Aberdeen Market will cost around £50 million, with £20m coming from the UK Government’s Levelling Up fund.
The new space has been designed to make use of the indoor/outdoor flow that is popular with similar projects.
